The Ultimate Fighter has become a gem among the typical dredge of reality television. Smartly conceived, well-produced and playing completely to the large UFC fan base, The Ultimate Fighter brings it’s SpikeTV viewers an eclectic collection of cast members every season. This is ultimately what makes the show tick; the clashing of personalities is a reality show staple, but on The Ultimate Fighter the personalities get to enter the octagon and fight each other. As each season passes, a number of contestants fade from the public eye for one reason or another, sometimes never to be seen again. What has happened to your favorite Ultimate Fighter contestant? Here, we’ll profile what’s been going on with some of our favorite fighters from The Ultimate Fighter.

Stephen Bonnar

Bonnar is probably best known for his epic and universally beloved The Ultimate Fighter title fight with Forrest Griffin on The Ultimate Fighter 1; a fight he actually lost. Many regard this match as one of the best in UFC history, and rightfully so. However, since then, Bonnar has had some troubling times. He notched three consecutive victories in the Octagon after the fight, all on SpikeTV Ultimate Fight Nights. Then, on Ultimate Fight Night 5, he lost a unanimous decision to Rashad Evans. After that, Bonnar got scheduled to fight a rematch with Forrest Griffin at UFC 62 on August 26, 2006. Bonnar again lost to Griffin (in a unanimous decision), but those were the least of his worries. Shortly after that fight, Stephan Bonnar tested positive for the use of anabolic steroids, a banned substance in the UFC. He has not fought since, and his career is seemingly in jeopardy. No decision has yet been made by the powers that be on his UFC status.

Chris Leben

Brash and unflinching, Chris Leben was as dynamic a personality (and fighter) as The Ultimate Fighter has ever seen. In a controversial match early on in The Ultimate Fighter 1, Leben lost to Josh Koscheck. Leben complained to UFC president Dana White after the fight that Koscheck just “held him down” and if that was the kind of fighter White wanted in the UFC. Leben got to fight again, this time in the Ultimate Fighter semi-finals, when Nate Quarry bowed out with an injury. Leben lost again to Kenny Florian. Since The Ultimate FIghter 1, Leben has had a sterling record, going 6-1-0 in UFC competition, only losing to Anderson Silva, but beating quality fighters like Jorge Rivera, Edwin Dewees, and Jorge Santiago. Leben is a personality that the Ultimate Fighting Championship should be eager to use. He had been training at AMC Pankration in Seattle, but currently Leben is training down in Portland, Oregon.

Rashad Evans

Despite an eight inch height difference between Evans and the 6′7 Brad Imes, Rashad beat Imes in the heavyweight division finale of The Ultimate Fighter 2. Success has followed Evans since his victorious stint on The Ultimate Fighter 2, him winning all three of his UFC bouts since. His professional MMA record remains a perfect 14-0-0 and Evans is widely considered to be a title contender. It should only be a matter of time before Rashad Evans gets his shot.

Joe Stevenson

Stevenson surprised few by winning the Welterweight division of The Ultimate Fighter 2. Only 5′7, he defeated Luke Cummo in the Ultimate Fighter finale with an unanimous decision. He lost his first match after The Ultimate Fighter, to Josh Neer at Ultimate Fight Night 4. However, Stevenson easily won his next fight due to doctor stoppage versus Yves Edwards at UFC 61. Stevenson is one of the most experienced fighters to ever appear on The Ultimate Fighter; he sported a professional record of 24-6-0 prior to appearing on the reality show.

Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter (also known unofficially as UFC Fight Night 7) was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on October 10, 2006. The event took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida and was broadcast live on Spike TV in the United States and Canada. The two-hour broadcast drew a 3.1 overall rating, with the main event of Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock drawing a 4.3 rating. Quoting MMA Weekly’s Ivan Trembow, “That breaks down to an amazing 5.7 million viewers for the [Ortiz vs. Shamrock] fight. This shatters the UFC’s previous record for the number of people watching a UFC fight at any given time.”

The main event featured the third and final encounter between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock. At UFC 61, the two fighters met for a second time, with Ortiz reigning victorious via technical knockout; however, critics contend that the fight was stopped too early by referee Herb Dean. At the UFC 62 weigh-ins, UFC President Dana White announced the third Ortiz-Shamrock encounter. Tickets went on sale on Tuesday, August 29th, and sold out very quickly in two days.

Preliminary card

Welterweight bout: Forrest Petz vs. Marcus Davis

Davis defeats Petz by submission (guillotine choke) at 4:58 of round one. This bout was not aired on the broadcast.

Welterweight bout: Thiago Alves vs. John Alessio

Alves defeats Alessio by unanimous decision. All three judges score the bout 30-27 for Alves. This bout was not aired on the broadcast.

Middleweight bout: Rory Singer vs. Josh Haynes

Singer defeats Haynes by unanimous decision. All three judges score the bout 29-28 for Singer. The bout was reportedly considered the fight of the night by the UFC, and each fighter earned $15,000 bonuses for the honor. This bout was not aired on the broadcast.

Welterweight bout: Tony DeSouza vs. Dustin Hazelett

DeSouza, making his first UFC appearance since 2001, defeats Hazelett by submission (kimura) at 3:59 of round one. This bout was not aired on the broadcast.

Middleweight bout: Nathan Marquardt vs. Crafton Wallace

Marquardt defeats Wallace by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:14 of round two. Wallace was a late replacement for Thales Leites, who experienced difficulties processing his visa in time for the bout. This bout was not aired on the broadcast.

Main card

Light Heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Seth Petruzelli

Hamill defeats Petruzelli by unanimous decision. Judges score the bout 29-28, 30-27, and 29-28 for Hamill.

Middleweight bout: Ed Herman vs. Jason MacDonald

MacDonald – making his UFC debut – defeats Herman by submission (triangle choke) at 2:43 of round one.

Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Chris Price

Grove defeats Price by submission due to strikes at 3:59 of round one. This was Price’s UFC debut, and also his first professional loss.

Light Heavyweight bout: Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock

In the main event of the evening, Tito Ortiz defeats Ken Shamrock by technical knockout due to strikes at 2:23 of round one. This fight marked the third encounter in the rivalry between Ortiz and Shamrock. Following the bout, Shamrock conceded that his body was getting too old, and graciously ended the rivalry between himself and Ortiz. He however remained ambigious if he will retire.

The Final Chapter between Ortiz and Shamrock to be Written Tonight!

By Thomas Gerbasi

HOLLYWOOD, FL, October 9 – Ken Shamrock came to the weigh-in for his final fight with Tito Ortiz armed with a sandwich and shake; Ortiz just brought a scowl. But with both UFC stars appearing to be in supreme shape for their bout at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena, it’s clear that both did bring their ‘A’ games to the Sunshine State.

Ortiz, the former UFC light heavyweight champ, came in at a relatively light 203.5 for the third bout of his series with Shamrock, who weighed in at a ripped 204.5 and showed his ease at making the weight by sipping a drink and taking a bite from a sandwich as he made his way to the scale.

In their first bout in November of 2002, Ortiz stopped Shamrock after the third round. A rematch at UFC 61 in July saw Ortiz halt ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ again, but the stoppage by referee Herb Dean was seen as premature by many fans, leading to Tuesday’s third bout, which will be aired live on Spike TV beginning at 8pm.

“The fans deserved to see a fight and it was stopped short,” said Shamrock of his second bout with ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.’ “If I’m gonna go out, I’m gonna go out a warrior.”

Ortiz refuses to let Shamrock get the last word though.

“You guys are gonna see a great beating tomorrow night,” said Ortiz. “This is my life right here.”

All other fighters on the nine bout card made weight, with the only hiccup coming from returning welterweight veteran Tony DeSouza, who was forced to the scales a second time to make 171 pounds for his bout with Dustin Hazelett.

Tito Ortiz (203.5) vs Ken Shamrock (204.5)
Kendall Grove (184.5) vs Chris Price (185)
Jason MacDonald (185) vs Ed Herman (186)
Matt Hamill (205) vs Seth Petruzelli (203.5)
Nate Marquardt (184.5) vs Crafton Wallace (175.5)
Dustin Hazelett (167.5) vs Tony DeSouza (171)
Josh Haynes (184.5) vs Rory Singer (185.5)
John Alessio (169.5) vs Thiago Alves (171)
Marcus Davis (170) vs Forrest Petz (169.5)
